Saudi Student in USA

Table of Contents Introduction Surveillance Society Interpretative principle Education for Social Justice Conclusion Works Cited Introduction The United States government is putting virtually all security strategies and machinery on alert due to the continual threats of the terrorists to attack the country and its citizens all over the world. Following claims of responsibility on attacks and threats from the Islamic extremists such as Al Qaeda and Al shabaab, Islamic countries and their citizens have been labeled as terrorists or potential terrorists hence they are under great surveillance worldwide.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Saudi Student in USA specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Although, the terrorist attack of September 11, 2001 has passed almost a decade ago, Saudi students in United States of America are living under pressure of hard surveillance and discrimination and that would affect their educat ion in bad ways and sometimes in a good ways. Surveillance Society September 11, 2001 attacks and subsequent threats transformed United States of America into a society full of vigilance and surveillance in fear of potential terrorists attacks. Due to the stereotypes that Saudi students are potential terrorists, they experience hard surveillance and discrimination that make them feel isolated from other students (Staples Para. 2). The government surveillance is highly coordinated due to the use of modern surveillance technologies that permeate every aspect in the society in terms of phones, internet, cameras, biochips, electronic transactions, drug testing, genetic testing and perceived integrity tests when tracking crime suspects or watching ordinary people. The culture of surveillance is developing in the society, as modern technologies are becoming an integral part of the community: schools, colleges, workplace and even our homes. Constant surveillance in the society means that w e no longer have privacy and this is going to shape the society in terms of our practices and attitudes towards our safety and privacy. Staples argues that â€Å"surveillance rituals constitute the building blocks of a rapidly emerging society of discipline, one increasingly stripped of personal privacy, individual trust, and a viable public life that supports and maintains democratic values and practices† (Para. 1). This is of much benefit to the society. However, hard surveillance and discrimination of Saudi students have negative effects on their performance since they lose confidence and trust of the government, lecturers and their fellow students. Although it seems that Saudi students are stripped of their privacy through constant hard surveillance, this is done for the sake of their safety and the Americans, as surveillance is the only way to assure safety to everyone from the unknown terror.Advertising Looking for essay on rhetoric? G et your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Interpretative principle The September 11, 2001 attacks had residual and cumulative effect on the minds of Americans due to the acceptance of the great loss of lives and cultural responses experienced. Rendell argue that writers resort to allegorical mode in times of great losses and enormous cultural changes to explain realities that are too hard to comprehend (Para. 1-2). The writers use comics to describe complex circumstances that are too disturbing if presented in their reality. In the McCloud comics, Blood in the Gutter, â€Å"magic and mystery are the heart of comics† (Rendell Para. 8). McCloud used the concept of closure to explain mental ability to construct a unified reality from the fragmented events hence aid the understanding of traumatic moments. The concept of closure as depicted in the McCloud comic has six aspects: moment-to-moment, action-to-action, subject-to-subject, scene-to-scene, aspect-to-aspect, and non-sequitur (McCloud Para 1). When applying the concept of closure to the effect of surveillance and discrimination of Saudi students, it shows that the mind has ability to accept reality and abstract conditions and transform them into positive perspective. The education of the Saudi students will not be adversely affected since their minds are going to transform and accept reality of the need and intention of the surveillance. Constant hard surveillance may cause tolerance and more hostility of the Saudi students to other cultures. Education for Social Justice According to Berta, â€Å"shared ethnic heritage between teachers and student does not imply that one is able to make meaningful academic and social connections† (Para. 7). The learning environment requires development cultural awareness so that students do not stereotype their perspective on the way they view different cultures from diverse races worldwide but focus critically on their performance that determines th eir future. Cultural and political diversity are assets in an education system since they are importance in the formation of robust relationships that brings real experienced to the acceptance of other cultures that feel or seem to be marginalized or discriminated against. Students from Saudi need to integrate and accept to live in harmony with diverse cultures in the course of their studies.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Saudi Student in USA specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Conclusion Security surveillance is inevitable and very invaluable for the safety of any nation in this era of great technology and potential terrorists’ attack. Saudi students must have a positive view of the circumstances surrounding the hard surveillance and their perceived discrimination as a way of enhancing not only the safety of Americans but also their own safety and anybody else for the sake of a better and discipline socie ty free of any terror. The aspect of cultural diversity must be accepted as an asset for creation of strong relationships that can build the society for the common benefit of all people regardless of the race or political wing. Education is an absolute right and anybody must be given equal chance to assess quality education in spite of political or racial classification. In the current world, security is given priority over privacy as there is no value attached to the life of any human being; better to be safe being watched than to die in secrete. Cather in the Rye Essay essays

Cather in the Rye Essay essays Catcher in the Rye is one of the most interesting books that Ive read this year. Although Holdens language is very vulgar, it makes the book more real and interesting. I didnt see it when first reading the book but Salinger uses his characters as symbols or his characters have a function as to what he feels. The three major characters that he mentions the most are Allie, his brother, Phoebe, his younger sister, and Jane Gallagher, a friend. These characters have a great function in the book, the function The first character I would like to tell you about is Allie, Holdens brother. Holden adores Allie and is very distressed about the premature death. It is easy to say that Allies death was the beginning of a downward spiral in Holdens life. According to Holden, Allie was one of the most lovable people ever. Youd have liked him... He was terrifically intelligent...But it wasnt just that he was the most intelligent member in the family. He was also the nicest. As Holden gets more and more upset throughout his days in New York, Allie is a reoccurring thought. Holden seems to use Allie as a sort of medicine. Thinking of Allie both comforts him and upsets him. On his last day in New York, there is even a point when Holden walks on the street talking aloud to Allie. Allie, dont let me disappear...Please, Allie. And when Id reach the other side of the street without disappearing. Id thank him. Holden feels guilty about some things with Allie. One particular instance that Holden dwells on is a summer day when Allie wanted to accompany Holden and a friend on the bike ride. Allie heard us talking about it, and he wanted to go, and I wouldnt let him. I told him he was a ...

German and United States Relations

German and United States Relations Different waves of German immigration to the U.S. resulted in German immigrants becoming one of the largest ethnic groups in the US. Starting in the late 1600s, Germans immigrated to the U.S. and established their own communities such as Germantown near Philadelphia in 1683. Germans came to the US for various reasons including economic hardship. Nearly a million Germans immigrated to the U.S. in the aftermath of the German Revolution in the 1840s. World War I At the beginning of the World War I, the U.S. declared its neutrality but soon changed positions after Germany began its unlimited submarine warfare. This phase of the war led to the sinking of various American and European vessels, among them the Lusitania which carried about a thousand passengers including 100 Americans. America officially entered the conflict against the Germans in a war which ended in 1919 with Germanys loss and the signing of the Treaty of Versailles. Jewish Persecution Tensions resurfaced when Hitler starting targeting the Jewish population which eventually escalated into the holocaust. Trade agreements between the United States and Germany were eventually revoked and the American ambassador recalled in 1938. However, some critics state that, due to the isolationist tendency of the U.S. politics at the time, America did not take sufficient steps to prevent Hitlers rise and the persecution of Jews. World War II As in World War I, the U.S. initially took a neutral position. In the early phase of the war, the U.S. enacted a trade embargo against all the warring nations and this isolationist position did not change until the fall of France and the real prospect of the fall of Britain when the United States began supplying weapons to the anti-German side. Tensions escalated when the United States began sending warships to protect weapon supplies, which eventually fell under attack from German submarines. After Pearl Harbor, the United States officially entered the war which ended with the surrender of Germany in 1945. Split Germany The end of World War II saw Germany occupied by France, the United States, the United Kingdom, and the Soviet Union. Eventually, the Soviets controlled the eastern German Democratic Republic and the Americans and western allies supported the western Federal Republic of Germany, both established in 1949. Cold war rivalry between the two superpowers dictated the realities in Germany. U.S. aid to Western Germany was characterized by the Marshall Plan, which helped rebuild German infrastructure and economy and provided incentives for Western Germany, among others European countries to remain in the anti-Soviet bloc. Split Berlin The city of Berlin (in the eastern part of Germany) was also divided between eastern and western powers. The Berlin Wall became a physical symbol of both the Cold War and the Iron Curtain. Reunification Competition between the two German halves remained in place until the collapse of the Soviet Union and the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. The reunified of Germany re-established its capital in Berlin. Current Relations The Marshall Plan and U.S. troop presence in Germany has left a legacy of cooperation between both nations, politically, economically, and militarily. Although both countries have had recent disagreements on foreign policy, especially with the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq, relations remained favorable overall, especially with the election of pro-American politician Angela Merkel.

Ludwig van Beethoven Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Ludwig van Beethoven - Essay Example Having been instilled with the passion for music, he furthers his skill by taking lessons from notable musical figures in Vienna including Haydn, Albrechtsberger, Schenck and Salieri. Before long, "he has earned a name for himself as a pianist of great fantasy and verve, admired in particular for his brilliant improvisations" (Ludwig van Beethoven 2). In his twenties, Beethoven begins to suffer hearing disorder which gradually led his loss of hearing. However, this does not affect his ability in producing notable masterpieces. As stated above, the life of Beethoven spans the end of the classical until the early romantic era. Owing to this, the compositional career of Beethoven is divided into three periods namely, Early, Middle, and Late Periods which reflect his use of distinct musical styles. The Early Period features his earliest musical compositions which strongly emulates his predecessors like Mozart and Haydn yet "concurrently exploring new directions and gradually expanding the scope and ambition of the work" (Ludwig van Beethoven 3). The Middle Period comprises the compositions of Beethoven during the gradual loss of his hearing. Thus, his works exudes themes of struggle and heroism and are categorized as the most popular examples for the classical period. The Late Period includes the last compositions of Beethoven and is noted by their intellectual depth, intense and highly personal expression, and formal innovation. These works are regarded as the commencement of the Romantic Era (Ludwig van Bee thoven 3). Included in the Early Period, Beethoven's Piano Sonata No.14 in C-sharp Minor is more popularly known as the Moonlight Sonata. This composition which is originally entitled by Beethoven as "Quasi una Fantasia" (Almost a Fantasy) is dedicated to the 17 year old pupil of the musical genius Countess Giulietta Guicciardi. As the title suggests, the composition is more of a Fantasia than a sonata as it does not follow the latter's fast-slow-fast form. Moonlight Sonata can be regarded as Beethoven's expression of love to this aristocrat whom she proposed to afterwards (Moonlight Sonata 1). The Moonlight Sonata is comprised of three movements: Adagio sostenuto, Allegreto, and Presto Agitato. The first movement sounds like a "lamentation" with a dark and whisper like melody. It is played against an accompanying ostinato triplet rhythm. The dynamics of the movement ranges from pianissimo (very quietly) to mezzo forte (moderately loud) giving a powerful impact to listeners. The second movement is regarded as a moment of relative calm in the piece. This part is written as a scherzo which denotes to a "comic composition, usually fast moving and used in place of a minuet or trio during Beethoven's time." The Moonlight Sonata peaks on its final movement where the composer wrote with fast arpeggios and strongly accented notes. In contrast to the first two movements, this movement is more powerful and invigorating with fast rhythm, loud dynamics, and more powerful texture. The Moonlight Sonata is noted for its simple yet beautiful melody (Rosen 126). The Eroica is Beethoven's composition in his middle musical career which is highly influenced by the political situation during his time. It should be noted that Beethoven lived during the time of French Revolution which ended in chaos. Out this chaos arose a French

Mission, Vision, and Goals Essay Example for Free

Mission, Vision, and Goals Essay My mission in life is to be happy with the way my life turned out. Yes, I would love to have a lot of money and to be known, but whats the point of having all of that when Im not happy that I have it? Most people mistake being grateful for happiness. Wrong! Many of the rich and famous are grateful for what they have, but not all are happy with it. No matter how my life turns out, I just want to be happy. Whether I am a homeless woman living in a shelter, or a successful entrepreneur living in a million dollar home, I just want to be happy!! Five-ten years from now, I see myself working on my clothing line and generating a good amount of sales. I see myself getting talked about in some of the hottest fashion magazines saying that I am one of the hottest successful plus size fashion designers around. During this time I hope to have a high rolling website for my line, and that I have a huge amount of customers that buy my items. I would also love to have at least one- two fashion boutiques fully designed and fully staffed. Being a fashion designer is my main career goal. I do not see myself being anything but a designer. Fifteen-twenty years from now, I see myself being in runway shows showing off all of my fabulous designs. I see luxurious clothing stores all across the map with my brand name a logo on the front. My stores will be fabulous and glamorous like Gucci, Guess, Coach, and Juicy Couture. My clothing will be very elegant and formal. Celebrities, both small and plus size will be flaunting my designs to the Grammys, Oscars, VMAs, and more. My name will be everywhere. I have a dream to be compared to other famous designer brands like Prada, Dior, Christian Louboutin, Vera Wang, Fendi and more! I want celebreties to specifically request me and my company to design an exclusive garment for a special occasion such as a wedding. Today, I am studying business management at Johnson and Wales University. My financial aid has recently put me in a position where unfortunately, I will most likely not be attending school next year. Instead, I will be working and saving money, so that I can go to a fashion school and get a fashion degree. While I am working during the summer, I play to buy a sewing machine, and teach myself how to sew clothes. I have been looking to buy a mannequin dress form, but unfortunately they range from $95 to nearly $500, so I have decided to make my own. I will be doing a small project where I will make my own mannequin dress form of my best friends body. My plan to help me get a better understanding of the fashion world, is to be an intern at a fashion company. I hope to land my first job as a fashion assistant, either before I go to fashion school (if Im lucky) or after I receive my degree. Fashion is a huge part of my life, and no matter what obstacles come in my way like not being able to attend school next year, I will make my dreams of becoming a fashion designer come true!

Dark Side of the Court - Original Writing Essay -- Papers

Dark Side of the Court - Original Writing As the searing sun slowly set in the attractive ginger hued sky, a rusted and ramshackle vehicle laboured along Oakland Hill Road in such a manner that it seemed as if it weren’t meant to reach its destination. What now seemed a worthless hunk of scrap to onlookers used to be a vibrant red special edition Ford, though so much time had passed that it had little resemblance to what it once was, besides the shape. It had been serviced a few times in its fifteen year history, the last one being almost six protracted years ago; the year ‘she’ had left the two who were seated inside, amongst the filthy interior. The owner of the dilapidated Ford was surveying the road for the correct house, number 62, as the two had only recently moved from Boston to Philadelphia. Out of the open window on the front passenger’s side popped a small, pale white hand, which motioned as if it were pointing at something. ‘Look dad, there it is,’ muttered the son, who was quite obviously not overjoyed at the event. ‘Ah ha, finally we made it, eh Timmy?’ exclaimed the father, attempting to ignore his son’s attitude. Timmy, or Tim for short, didn’t give an answer but was amusing himself by avidly watching a faded green leaf fall gracefully from the tree in front of their new home; a modestly sized semi-detached wooden house, which had belonged to a friend who had recently moved abroad. With the car finally at rest, the two stepped in front of their new home. There was an uneasy silence between the two whilst they unloaded the car in an almost machine-like fashion. 'I sure hope I have the key!' Tim's fathe... ... of his head. David’s hand became strangely spasmodic. Nevertheless, he gripped the torch with both hands and forced it toward the darkness. The powerful beam penetrated it like a knife through butter. David took a huge gulp as he slowly but surely searched around. Roy was shaken by a massive gust of wind that almost knocked the mighty guy clean off his feet; he recaptured his balance uneasily before hearing the torch drop hard onto the court floor. He turned in disgust at the illuminated sight. ‘I’m so sorry David. I’m sorry that I was right about those kids.’ Roy spoke sympathetically, but wasn’t heard. The wind wailed as though it were a banshee. David simply stood without any palpitation, rock solid and pale. His head was burning with guilt as he gazed at his son, who lay dead on the dark side of the court.

Importance of Sports Essay

Here’s hoping that now you know what is the importance of sports. Besidesbeing important for kids, taking up asports careerin adult life, has its ownbenefits. A sportsperson often travels to other countries to play matches andin the process, learns a great deal about the cultures of these countries. Eventhe spectators or TV viewers are thoroughly entertained while watchingprofessional sports, making it an excellent recreational activity. 3 We live in jet age. Life has become so easier than ever before. Withadvancing technologies our lives have become comfortable. But in today’sworld under the spell of technology we are ignoring our health. Even kidsrather than going out and playing with friends prefer watching television, playing computer games,or surf the net. Playing Sports keeps us physically fit and mentally alert. It keeps us healthywhich is the most important thing of all!! as it is indeed equal to all thewealth in the world, for you may have money but if you have not got health toenjoy it what is its use ? We have variety of sports to choose from like Basketball, Tennis , Football,Cricket, Swimming etc. Besides sports not only helps us to be physically fitbut it also teaches us the values of discipline, loyalty , teamwork, hard-workand honesty which helps us to play the bigger game of life! A true sportsmancelebrates victory and accepts defeat with a smile. To him winning is notimportant but giving his 100% is! But in today’s competitive world studies are given more importance. A childdoesn’t get enough time to play because of constant pressure of studies andhis parents to perform better and better. Hence children ,parents andteachers must understand the importance of sports and give the child enoughtime to play as we all know very well that â€Å"All work and no play makes Jack adull boy! † 4 IMPORTANCE AND BENEFITS OF SPORTS Have you ever thought why people do sports? Absolutely, many people seemnot to know the reasons. As a anectode, there are many people who dosports for nothing around us. Everyday we can encounter with these people. They regularly do sports; however, none of them realizes the benefits andimportance of sports. In fact, vice versa, some people want to be fit andattractive, look smart. Unfortunately, these people can’t consider otherbenefits of sports. In my opinion, there are several benefits of sports thatpeople often do not consider: sports are required to be healthy people, areneeded for enjoyment, and are great market for countries’ economies. The first advantage of sports for people is that they help people be healthy, and be fit. Throughout history, people can’t give up their interest at theirbody. I belive that now many people love themselves no matter how beautiful or ugly they are. Naturally, people’s first aim should be healthy andfit with the benefits of sports. Due to this fact that Sports keep our bodyhealthy. As a possible example, imagine that there is a car which has notworked for years. If you try to run the motor engine, it will not work anymoresince it has been rusted and its engine may be broken down. As a result, people is smillar to engines and motors. If we don’t do sports, we will beforced to rust, in other words, decomposition of our body; afterwards, wemay have some problems with our body when we even need to small walk. Inaddition, sports balance our body’s blood pressure and circulation. Accordingto many researchs which have been done by scientists, we can prove theimportance of sports for our health because 70% middle aged people who didnot do sports in their youth are now struggling with the problems such ashigh tension, trouble with blood circulation, easily become tired due to thelack of sports. The second advantage of sports for people is that they are required for ourdaily lives and competing at the internatinal area because of enjoyment of sports. For many years, sports have been done by people. For example, haveyou ever thought why people want to play football or other games? Theanswer may be easy since sports are entertaining. They are sometimesmagics as they catch our attention and give us pleasure as much as we need. Sometimes overwhelming life conditions may be unfair and make usunhappy. However, if there is a sport activity when we are unhappy, we willprobably be motivated and be refreshed again after the sport activity. Thisshould be the most important benefit of sports because many people dosports for this reason. In addition, have you ever thought why millions of people watch World Cup match without breathing? There might be somereasons behind the action of watching football match. The most importantone might be the excitement and enjoyment of sport. Football match isexhilating because it gives us pleasure to watch. In the pitch and near thepitch, there are more than 18 men, and they are the representative of oursport culture. Within the excitment of sports, countries are able to compete inthe international area. Due to this fact people like sports since they and theircountries are able to compete and beat opponent countries and this is themost important reason to take pleasure from sports. The final and least advantage of sports is that they are the huge market forcountrie’s economy. First of all, if we look at only football industry. There aremore than thousand professional team and at least these team have 25players. If this is calculated, there are approximately 25000 players withoutworking staff, scouts, coaches and managers. This shoud be the largestindustry which employs many people in Turkey. In addition, countries andclubs have to establish new facilities for sports game. Some of them are thelargest buldings in the entire country that represent countries, for exampleAtaturk Olympic Stadium in Turkey. Supplying funds for this buldings may bethe publicity of countries since constructing well designed stadiums helpcountry preapare or organize big competitons such as World Cup, Olympics, and Tennis Tournaments. Finally, sports allow advertisement companies tomake publicity of strong brands. For example, sponsorship is one of the bestpublicity of one company. Everyone watchs thier favourite team or atlethe, and audiance will probably see the sponsor of team or atlethe. For example, in England, Manchester United which is one of the most powerful clubs ininternational area has a sponsor called Vodafone. I am from Turkey, and Ieven know its sponsor. This will probably show the effectiveness of sponsorship in sports. All in all, we can conclude that there are several advantages and benefits of sports. First, sports are required by people to be fit, smart, and good looking. Second, sports are entertaining due to many facts. Third, sports are the hugemarket for countries’ economies. In my opinion, despite sports’ advantages, many people can’t believe that sports are useful and beneficial. I hope that inthe future these people will tend to be more optimistically to sports sincethey are the neccessity of our lives. 5 Importance Of Sports The Importance of SportsSports are an important part of just about every society, every country, every part of our planet. In one way or another, everyone is involved insports or some sort, whether they’re playing or watching or just knowsomeone who does either. The importance of sports in the life of a young student is invaluable and goesmuch further than the basic answer that â€Å"it keeps kids off the streets. † Itdoes in fact keep kids off the streets, but it also instills lessons that areessential in the life of a student athlete. Sports play a pivotal role in themakeup of a young athlete, especially in the middle school to high schoolyears where student-athletes are much more mature and mentallydeveloped. Where else can a young, impressionable youth learn values likediscipline, responsibility, self-confidence, sacrifice, and accountability? Sports come in many varieties. There are individual sports such as golf orteam sports such as football and hockey. Court sports include badminton andsquash. Other categories are gymnastics, martial arts, racing for example theF1 races, obstacle sports such as skating and indoor sports such as chess andcard games. Football, hockey and basketball are team sports. Teams of eleven or sixplayers square off against each other, with team members helping each otherto win as a team. Sports are played for fun or for money (or sometimes both). Just about everysport has both professionals (those who compete for money) and amateurs(those who compete not for money but for fame or for the sake of competition itself). Many amateurs who are really good at their sport becomeprofessionals. Health is wealth. † Those who have understood the importance of health willtry to keep themselves fit. Apart from a balanced diet, sports are necessaryto maintain our health. If we do not exercise regularly, our body does notdevelop the muscles as well as bones become weak.

Organizational Structure Essay

An organizational structure is a composition that specifies a company’s hierarchical structure. There are various kinds of conformations that organizations can choose to build their business around. The organizational structure exemplifies the way in which control and business affairs have been appointed within the organization. Organizational structure encompasses the design of an organization though people positioning and responsibilities in order for organizational goals can be reached. Some of the time, a formal structure is not necessary due to a small informal business setting. In large organization responsibilities must be distributed. Hence, the reason that policies and procedures are established that assign responsibilities for numerous positions. The determination of these organizational functions (such as marketing, finance, human resources, and operations) influence and determine the organizational structure of your an organization. The three main types of organiza tional structures are functional structure, divisional structure, and matrix structure. Divisional Structure The structure that an organization is based around also is contingent on the enormity of the company. Divisional structure separates the faculty based on the commodity and customer demand verses geographical location. For example, each area within the organization is accountable for certain divisions. Each division has individual support systems such as finance department, marketing department, warehouse department, and maintenance department. Divisional structure is grants flexibility and is a decentralized structure. Divisional structure also grants quick adaptability to geographical changes. Divisional structure embellishes advancements in the market and industry and allows for various plans of action. However, this structure causes replication of resources due to each unit having the necessity of every resource. PepsiCo’s Organizational Design An example of an organization design around divisional structure is PepsiCo. PepsiCo is a flexible company that is constantly looking for new innovations and consistently adapts to the geographical market. PepsiCo has a decentralized organizational structure. The functional determinations are made in individual units with corporate control and direction. PepsiCo has one CEO and three division presidents. The company’s hierarchical structure continues as each division is broken down into market units. Each market unit has a director. Furthermore each market unit is divided into regional units, then down the chain to sales units. Each unit has its own resources, such as marketing, finance, human resources, and operations departments. PepsiCo determines responsibilities by departmentalization. Departmentalization is a conglomeration of common duties and characterization of tasks. The influences of departmentalization are function, product, geographic, process and customer. PepsiCo maintains a span of control by making sure of correct distribution of responsibility among employees and task obligations are accounted for. For example, units are tasked with weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly forecast for sales, operations, overhead, and labor. Reports are sent weekly to account for these actions. Human resources departments are in each division to ensure control over the organization. There are guidelines and procedures in place to ensure the rules are being followed across the globe. Formalization sets the standard for the administered responsibility. Each unit at PepsiCo has management teams in place to ensure control of task performances. For example, a if a location has been tasked with a 1,000 case distribution for week one in the period and the sales teams are severely falling short on sales, management will step in to centralize the issue, reiterate the method of actions, and ensure the actions are conducted in a certain manner to achieve results. PepsiCo is multinational organization made up of three units which are PepsiCo Americas Foods, PepsiCo Americas Beverages and PepsiCo International. This structure allows the organization to focus on manifesting international markets, which will grant independence revenues, enabling focus on better product advancement. The organization is spread across the globe. However, the control is local, unlike a matrix structure that is located only in a single area (PepsiCo 2012). Matrix Structure A matrix structure formalizes line teams as well as the typical divisional hierarchy. The matrix structure is a hybrid between the functional and divisional structure, effectively creating independent business units for each product or service created or each unique market targeted. The matrix-structured organization is a project-based business that divides individual groups based on functional specializations. Variation of the matrix structure divides the authority by both functional and project areas. The functional manager heads up the functional areas of the organization. The project supervisor oversees the assigned project. This allows for management to focus on areas of proficiency. Companies such as General Motors has based its organization around the matrix structure due to the ability to specialize in specific areas, and organizational communication through other fields. General Motors believes the differentiation of ideas creates innovational determinations. The matrix structure also allows the human resources department to be shared throughout the organization. General Motors is made up of one main chief information officer (CIO) and several divisional CIOs that control the functionalities in the organization. General Motors also has process information officers that work in various areas of expertise across the organization. General Motors believes the matrix structure develops global commercialism (Daft 2007). Functional Structure Functional Structured organizations group tasks according to the target. Functional structured organizations work well for organizations that have a need for departments to rely on expertise of its faculty. A major disadvantage to a functional structured organization is the communication boundaries due to variation in departments that work individually. One company that a functional structure works well is Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart is one of America’s largest retailers. Wal-Mart is designed by a functional structure. Wal-Mart’s target market is a consumer with median incomes. Wal-Mart has a limited amount of functions in specialized areas with in the organization. Wal-Mart does not produce its goods, but has enough buying power to supply the demanded products. The organizational structure and large size enables the buying power to purchase goods at low prices. This buying power enables Wal-Mart to offer its target market lower prices creating a competitive edge over other retailers. A functional structured organization; such as Wal-Mart have a chief executive officer, limited executive staff, and department heads in domineering areas of expertise such as accounting, marketing, human resources and warehouse. Wal-Mart’s headquarters and executive staff is made up of a Chief of Executive Officer, Chairman of the Board and Board of Directors, with supporting committees. Conclusion Determining an organizations structural design that will be the most effective for a specific company has great significance on organizational success. Using an unsuitable design structure can be consequential in communication, product development, customer service, and countless situations of other organizational issues. Organizational structure can determine the successful outcome of the organization. Reference Bateman, T. S., & Snell, S. A. (2011). eat this essays

eat this essays Imagine being in a position that gave you the power to inspire a race and gain the respect of another. Booker T. Washington, a prominent and extremely successful African-American had that opportunity. This opportunity came in the times of the emancipation of slavery. And when given the chance he excelled. In his book, Up from Slavery, Booker T. Washington exposes readers to the hardships he faced from the time he was a slave, until the times he became a leader among African-Americans. His book gives detailed accounts of his life, from a first. It speaks of slavery, racism, triumph, and struggle, which all couldn't overpower handwork. Hard working was something Washington believed in and was. The most in unheard voice at the time of slavery both past and present, was that of the African-American women. During these periods, female accomplishments were not recognized. These accomplishments have been brought forth for people to view them in one of many books. The book, Voice from the S outh, by Anna Cooper combines works of fiction, poetry, autobiographies, and biographies. Cooper was one of few black woman of her time to earn a Ph.D. She was a feminist who believed that women's voices shouldn't go unheard. The book displays great moments of triumph that conquer over hard bearing obstacles. The book is quite interesting one that focuses on black women's writings in the nineteenth and twentieth century. The context however seems to jump around from subject to subject, which could often confuse the reader. This book seems to be drunk on syntax blind to semantics. In other words this book tended to use words that went around the subject. These books try to focus on all aspects of the struggles of both women of color and of African Americans as a whole. A big difference between these books is the fact that one of the voices was heard while the other silenced. Though in times of racism, black males still received more respect then women. My ...

DNA synthesis and repair Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

DNA synthesis and repair - Essay Example contains over 3 billion bases that are similar in all people but the order of their arrangement determines the uniqueness of one individual and can be used to determine if there is any relationship between individuals. The DNA bases combine with each other to form a base pair for example when A combines with T, C and G they form a pair that is unique for each human being (Adams and OIRL Press, 1991, p.17). Each base is combined with a sugar molecule and a phosphate molecule and the combination is called a nucleotide which is arranged in two long strands forming a double helix. The spiral nucleotide forms its self like a ladder with the DNA pairs as the ladder rungs while the sugar ad phosphate molecules act like the sidepieces of a ladder (Kornberg and Baker, 2005, p.7). DNA serves the purpose of storing biological information since it is resistant to cleavage and both strands store the same biological information (Adams and OIRL Press, 1991, p.44). In the human body cells, there are normally 46 strands of DNA that are called chromosomes and they are coded in a sequence of heterocyclic amines (Adams and OIRL Press, 1991, p.47). The chromosomes contain genes that contain hereditary information used to distinguish an individual from another or establish their biological information. The human body cells are in a continuous process of multiplication due to cell damage and body growth. Prior to cell division the DNA material that was previously in the cell must be duplicated so that the cell to come after cell division will have a full amount of DNA material. The semi-conservertive process by which the dna material is duplicated is called DNA replication. The process is termed as semi conservertive since the DNA in the new cell contains one strand from the previous cell and a newly synthesized strand and DNA Replication take place by breaking the hydrogen bonds between bases of the two antiparallel strands (Adams and OIRL Press, 19 91, p.50). The unwinding of the two

Feminist theories Why you think women commit crime Personal Statement

Feminist theories Why you think women commit crime - Personal Statement Example According to Einstadter (2006), the rise in the rate of female crimes in the early 1960s and 1970s was due to the fact that most women were adopting male roles thus, masculinising their behaviour and attitudes. On the same note, other scholars argue that immense participation of women in the workforce exposes them to crimes. Consequently, most women in prison are accused of abusing drugs, robbery, shoplifting, motoring, burglary, and fraud. What is clear is that women commit particular crimes at a different level from that of their male counterparts. Therefore, there is a large gap between men and women who commit a crime as it is unlikely to hear women being incarcerated for serious crimes such as murder. Freda Adler who was a theorist related the rise in female crimes to the success of the women’s liberation movement. According to him, the social movements increased women’s prospects and the need to commit crime to meet their societal needs. On the same note, Sigmund Freud argued that although women commit fewer crimes as compared to men, women who are involved in antisocial behaviour do it in revenge due to the fact that they do not have a penis; hence, they assume masculine traits (Cote, 2002). Based on this, it is sound to argue that most women commit crimes because they show masculine biological and psychological orientations. Consequently, they have a desire to be recognized in the society; hence, resort in illegal activities. Burgess-Proctor, A. (2006).
